“We’re all in the same canoe”!

DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Development Squad is for all ages and all abilities who would like a social paddle together with coaches available for technique development. Open to all club members and included in your membership. Please note that for those who are fairly new to the sport you must have preferably completed one of our Try Learn Explore courses or demonstrate suitable ability before joining the Development Squad.
Cost: No additional charge. Built into your membership fees.
DEVELOPMENT PLUS (NEW)
Development Plus provides paddlers with the opportunity to extend their training through additional paid sessions. These sessions are tailored to who is in the group and provide extra time on the water. These sessions will include balance development, focused skills training and fun. The aim is to further support technical growth, confidence, and overall paddling progression as an option for people not old enough or not yet meeting the requirements for Intermediate Squad.

ADULT DEVELOPMENT SQUAD

Adult Intermediate is an adult only session for those that want a social paddle with other adults together with a coach available for technique development.

INTERMEDIATE SQUAD
Intermediate Squad is for those paddlers wanting to advance beyond the development level and improve performance. This is currently the final level of our development pathway squad before advancing to the senior squads. You must already be a competent K1 paddler and will need to be approved by our Participation
Lead coach Kendra Tate to join this squad.  You will be expected to commit to the whole term for each session you select. Limited to 8 paddlers per session per term.

These squads are overseen by our Participation Lead Kendra Tate.

Senior Self- Directed Squads
These training squads consists of athletes of all ages who are committed to improving their paddle technique and fitness. These sessions are coach-guided but athletes in this squad are expected to be able to train independently with or without other squad members. These sessions follow structured training programme set by the club head coach and are aimed at assisting athletes wishing to compete in the annual CRNZ calendar of events. The coach will let you know which squad you are in based on ability.

These squads are overseen by our Head Coach Gavin Elmiger.

Other Important Stuff to Know

Lights – All paddlers will need lights to be able to paddle in the morning sessions once it is dark so get prepared. You can buy from the sports or bike shops. Ideally a small white light at front (not too bright), and red at the back.

Access Key Tags – We recommend that all club members have their own access key tag. You can acquire one through our Shop. There is a $30 bond per key tag and they can be collected from club coach Gavin before or after training sessions by arrangement.

Boat Repairs – If you notice any damage to club gear please alert your coach ASAP. Please never put a boat away broken (even if it wasn’t you!). Let you coach know or email info@northshorecanoeclub.org.nz so it can be repaired.
